Last year, BFGoodrich and Getaway teamed up to bring to you the second installment of Ultimate 4×4 Trails and Adventures Guide (download the full guide as a PDF here). Besides bringing you 36 of the finest off-road trails and adventures in the country, BFGoodrich challenged readers to send in photos of their 4x4s in the most exciting off-road destinations, along with a short description (no more than 100 words) of how difficult it was to get there. These are the winners of the BFGoodrich Where on Earth Am I competition:
Winner – Most original: Theo Theron
Region: Western Cape
Story: Where on earth am I you ask … well in my opinion the best kept secret on the West Coast! Trekoskraal was our home turf for a weekend of fun, sun, hardcore 4x4ing and family smiles all round. A friend suggested this getaway, and we were unsure of what to expect as 4×4 blogs and internet chats suggested that it could be a dump. Great was our surprise when we arrived and had the best camping weekend we had in a long time! The photos were taken by my wife, who’s more comfortable behind her camera than behind the wheel. The pic shows the depth and extent of a particular track which was great fun, up until we tried the dune on the left. The left dune had an extremely soft flowing texture, walking in it was hardly possible and you got sucked in knee high. My first attempt was unsuccessful. Luckily I had another go and the second time round I was successful! All I can say is that Trekoskraal is a lovely spot for a quite weekend away, with camping right on the beach and of course, the added benefit was trying out a new set of BFGoodrich tyres!
Winner – Most awesome: Richard Philips
Region: Western Cape
Story: During 2009, my wife and I drove our Land Rover Defender from Edinburgh to our home in Cape Town. The journey took us through 24 countries and took four months to complete. Before we left, we bought a new set of BFGoodrich All Terrain tyres and they didn’t let us down once. We didn’t get a single flat tyre and only had to inflate them two or three times (except for the times we deflated them for sand driving). Along the 28 000 kilometre route, we made some awesome memories that will never be forgotten.
Winner – Toughest terrain: Ruan Bezuidenhout
Story: I took my family on a weekend getaway to Sani Pass, Lesotho and was accompanied by the best tyres on earth – the BFGoodrich KM2.
