The so-called ‘dragon mountains' or ‘barrier of spears' in KwaZulu-Natal, is the tallest mountain range in Southern Africa and forms the natural border with the kingdom of Lesotho. As well as the spiritual homeland to the country's ‘first people' it is also a paradise for adventurers and wildlife lovers. The majestic Drakensberg Mountains impress with a mosaic of waterfalls and hidden caves, crystal rivers and rock pools, open grasslands and lush forests. The Ukhahlamba Drakensberg National Park is a World Heritage Site with its rich San rock-art collection of over 600 discovered sites featuring more than 22 000 individual paintings. Don't miss the spectacular Thukela Falls - the highest on the African continent. Besides the extensive hiking and camping opportunities, visitors can participate in white-water rafting, abseiling, canopy tours, horse riding, bird watching and trout fishing.
