On the Eastern Cape border, Port Edward is a relaxed South Coast resort with sandy unspoilt beaches and a quiet estuary. Its main attraction is Umtamvuna Nature Reserve, eight kilometres north of town. The reserve stretches 19 kilometres along the Umtamvuna River, and is known for its dramatic landscape of sheer cliffs dropping into a forested gorge. Hike into the gorge and spot nectar-feeding sunbirds and sugarbirds, as well as a colony of rare Cape vultures.
