Nestled between the Mbizane and Kaba Rivers, Southbroom is a popular South Coast destination for Gautengers, who flock to its stunning beaches every summer. Strict environmental controls have resulted in Southbroom's escaping the over-development that has blighted many coastal resorts. Instead it has lush vegetation that surrounds unspoilt beaches. The bay is protected by shark nets so it's suitable for swimming, although there are also tidal pools for children. The best place for swimming is Marina Beach, south of Southbroom Beach, which offers a beautiful five-kilometre stretch of sand. There are great fishing spots on the small rocky bays around Southbroom Beach. Southbroom's popular golf course offers spectacular sea views and tropical foliage. Next to the course, Frederika Nature Reserve preserves eight hectares of dune and indigenous forest.
