After years of dreaming, months of planning and three days of the paddling, the inaugural Green Kalahari Canoe Marathon got underway on 22 – 24 March 2012. As the official media sponsor, we sent along our editor, Cameron Ewart-Smith, to do some splashing around.
‘It was a real privilege being involved in the inaugural GKCM, and not just from the event’s perspective. The Northern Cape is so hospitable, it was really great to rediscover this wonderful corner of SA,’ says Cameron.
Paddlers at the marathon rated it as one of the best organised canoe races they had ever participated in, and every one of the 54 entrants promised to be back next year with friends to join.
