The Slow Quarter – Darling Brew’s sexy new taproom

Posted on 21 December 2011

As the beer revolution continues to gather steam, another exciting venue has opened in the Western Cape. The very sexy Slow Quarter is Darling Brew’s brand new taproom, proving that beer is every bit as highbrow as wine. Each of Darling’s beers is available on tap – yes you can finally get that long-awaited pint of draft Bone Crusher – and accompanied by a range of beer-inspired tapas designed to pair perfectly with Darling’s beers. Start with some Bone Crusher battered tempura prawns with a glass of the spicy witbier to complement it, followed by an ostrich and Black Mist pie encased in uber-light pastry. The dark ale goes equally well with the hand-rolled chocolate truffles, the only food item not made in-house.

The décor is divine, right down to the accidental paint chip that’s a perfect map of Africa and the surprisingly comfortable bar that you could lean against all afternoon. And of course there’s the beer – at present they’re available in five varieties (four of them on draft) although the owner, Kevin Wood, promises more speciality beers in the new year. This, following on from the success the Slow Beer Christmas Edition – a spicy limited edition brew currently flying off the shelves.
