Star trails are sometimes difficult to shoot and the outcome isn't always predictable. I took this image from a dry riverbed in Mashatu Game Reserve in Botswana. Shooting upwards and using an ultra-wide-angle lens made it possible to stand quite close to this cluster of trees and get this much sky in the shot. I also used a tripod and cable release. To get detail in the trees, I painted it with a spotlight for a few seconds and used Photoshop to get the light in my photo just right.
