The incredible flower show in the Biedouw Valley

Posted on 17 August 2011

Travelling from Clanwilliam, over the Pakhuis Pass and heading towards Wuppertal, one will pass the entrance to the Biedouw Valley, just 17 km before Wuppertal. Every August the Biedouw Valley puts on an incredible show of spring flowers and this year it is just exceptional. We found that the best way to see the flowers (other than on foot) was to cycle the length of the valley. We did this leisurely over two days, stopping frequently and taking plenty of photos. In winter it is usually not possible to exit the valley to the north due to the fast flowing Doring River blocking your way. To stay overnight in the valley look no further than Enjo Farm’s (halfway up the valley) self-catering rustic cottages and small campsite next to the river. The flowers around the farm were excellent as were the flowers on the next farm up the valley, Mietjiesfontein.
