Pet-friendly destinations in the Drakensberg and Midlands

Here are some of our favourite pet-friendly attractions and accommodation spots in the Drakensberg and KZN Midlands.

Pet-friendly attractions

Giants Castle Pet-Friendly Slackpacking Trail:  a two-night luxury walking excursion with Antbear Lodge.

The Bierfassl: a quaint Austrian-themed pub in the Midlands that serves hearty meals, catering for all tastes. Pets are welcome.

Karkloof Falls: a spectacular dog-friendly area with a waterfall just about 15km from Howick. There is also a picnic area.

Cattle Paths: a number of walking trails and a little pizza restaurant between Estcourt and Weenen. The trails can be walked or mountain biked and pets are welcome too.

Piggly Wiggly: a restaurant and farm stall in the Natal Midlands with lots of arts and craft outlets. If you pop by on a Saturday nice and early you can do the Park Run too.

Stay here

Dragon Peaks: offers camping where you can also take your dog. Day visitors with pets are also welcome including at their Dragons Rest Restaurant if you want a bite to eat.

Antbear Eco Lodge: with a cosy fireplace, jacuzzi bath and king-size double bed, this romantic spot offers pet-friendly mountain and garden view suites with fenced-in gardens.

Ardmore Guest Garm: a 150 ha organic timber farm situated in the Champagne Valley. There are self-catering and dinner bed and breakfast options, and your furry friend is welcome.
