The Department of Environmental Affairs and Tourism (DEAT) awarded R396 million in funding to SANparks in 2019 for infrastructural development to take place over the following three years. R195 million of the funding was allocated to the Kruger National Park (KNP) to upgrade its facilities and enhance tourist attractions.

KNP released plans for upgrades, such as a new day visitors site at Shingwedzi, upgraded tented accommodation at Lower Sabie, and a conference venue at Mopani Rest Camp, to name a few. Since then, they have upgraded the units at Punda Maria, Shingwedzi, Letaba, Satara, Orpen, Lower Sabie, and Berg-en-dal.

Half of the Skukuza campsite has been upgraded, and the Moffat Cottage at Lower Sabie has been replaced by two chalets. For more information on their upgrades, click here. If you’re looking to camp at KNP, find more information here.

Currently, upgrades to the Bushman Trail Camp are underway.
