Residents in Dundee in KwaZulu-Natal are warned to be on the lookout for a large male lion that supposedly escaped from a nearby game reserve. However, officials are unsure exactly where the predator escaped from.

The lion has already killed a calf and attempted to kill another, according to The South African. Officials from the Nambiti Private Game Reserve joined the search for the animal on Tuesday, February 4, but denied that the animal was theirs, according to TimesLive.

The lion was detected on a security camera on Monday night. ‘Motion sensor cameras were set up in the area and footage captured a large male lion wandering the area. SAPS, members of the Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife and farmers are now searching for the lion, in an attempt to capture it alive, a source told Northern Natal Courier.

Anyone who sees the lion is urged to contact Warrant Officer Khumalo at the Dundee Police Station urgently. Residents can call the station on 034 299 9755 or visit them at 75 Gladstone St, Dundee.
