A zebra on my stoep: Hluleka Nature Reserve chalets

Posted on 17 November 2012

Hluleka Nature Reserve chalets are perfect for those who want to experience the untamed beauty of the Wild Coast, but aren’t interested in the rustic accommodation options typical of the Transkei. The chalets are surrounded by lush indigenous forest, home to abundant bird and animal life, including blue duiker and eland.

Each of the seven double-storey wooden chalets has a loft room that offers from-your- bed views of the Indian Ocean, a fully equipped kitchen and a lounge leading onto a long balcony overlooking the rocky coastline, rolling hills, thick bush and changing tides.

Kids will love the family of zebras that graze around the chalets; they’re tame and photo-friendly.

Hluleka beach, a two-minute walk from the chalets, is a secluded cove framed by tangled coastal forest and towering palm trees.
