The historical fishing town of Kalk Bay is a picturesque 40-minute drive down the M3 from the bustling Cape Town city centre. The quaint streets and colonial-style architecture, swirled with vibrant multi-coloured art, jewellery and antique shops, and topped with charming restaurants, bars and coffee shops, create the impression of having stepped into a different world. Kalk Bay has one of the prettiest and most evocative waterfronts on the Cape Peninsula. Fishing boats still chug out before dawn and come in around noon with the catches of the day. It's one of the last traditional working harbours in South Africa, with a fishing community proud of its heritage. Explore the bric-a-brac, antique and clothing shops along Main Road and eat freshly caught seafood in one of the restaurants on the waterfront.
