Lexus has issued a safety recall for the GX and UX. We detail the models affected and the reason for the recall.

Lexus South Africa Motors has issued a safety recall for two models sold in South Africa. The affected vehicles are the GX and UX, sold between 2024 and 2025 nationally, says the National Consumer Commission (NCC). The Japanese automaker’s local arm says that the Air Bag Control Unit module may have been manufactured with software that could cause faults within the door airbag pressure sensor to stay active permanently. Consequently, the front side airbags in the GX and UX may deploy later than necessary during an accident. This may reduce protection for the front passengers, resulting in increased chances of injury during certain crashes.

- Models affected: GX and UX, sold between 17 April 2024 and 8 September 2025
- Reason for safety recall: Faults within Air Bag Control Unit module, potentially delaying front side airbag deployment

Customers who own the affected vehicles are are urged to take their vehicles to their nearest authorised Lexus dealership. Any inspections and repairs will be conducted at no cost to the consumer.
