Home Suite Hotels unveils innovative sleep menu for a restful stay

Home Suite Hotels, a unique brand that provides a warm and welcoming atmosphere of home away from home, along with exceptional luxury hospitality, has announced the launch of an innovative sleep menu that aims to provide guests with an elevated in-room hotel experience. The new sleep menu has been expertly curated to provide guests with a relaxing and tranquil environment, ensuring they get a good night’s sleep and wake up feeling refreshed.

My quest for sleep

I’ve always been a playful soul who never wanted the fun to end whenever my cousins would visit our home during the holidays. We’d play for hours outside in the streets, kicking up dust while chasing a football, tag, and hide-and-seek. Dreading the siren call from our parents when nightshade cloaked the township and the street lights lit up to guide us home. Even then we had plans to continue playing in the confines of our homes. Maybe video games or a movie. Something to keep us entertained.

All good things come to an end, though. And even youthful exuberance cannot escape the powerful currents of time. My Mother would tuck us in before regaling us with enthralling bedtime stories. And each night at the end of her story all the other kids would be fast asleep. Except for me. I was up, wide-eyed waiting for more.

This would be my relationship with sleep, long after the stories had stopped and I traded playtime in the streets for University and work. When the world went to sleep I would lay awake until the sun came up.

After all these years of trying many techniques and routines on the quest for a decent night’s sleep, I received a message about a hotel that curated a sleep menu and “sleep technology”.

‘Sleep technology?’ I thought to myself while envisioning robots, AI and complex machinery programmed to put you in the deepest REM sleep unknown to mankind. To my surprise (and relief) it was nothing of the sort.

Although I was a bit sceptical at first (and did not get to try all the extras) that quickly vanished the moment I laid my head down to rest that evening. The pillows were as soft as a cloud and the room temperature and atmosphere had me drifting to dreamland in no time. I woke up feeling rested the next day and looking forward to another night’s sleep.

I am no sleep doctor or researcher in sleep and this is far from an endorsement or prescription – but I was genuinely impressed by the effects of this change in environment.

So what exactly was the sleep technology?

Innovative sleep technology

Using research and data around sleep, the team at Home Suite Hotels made data-driven improvements to their accommodation that would improve guests’ sleep.

The sleep menu comprises complimentary items (already fitted into your room) and extras that can be purchased when making your booking or afterwards.

Their custom menu allows you to tailor your pillow experience to your preferences, starting with the choice of shape, filling, and level of support.

Whether you opt for the Standard Microfiber pillow with options like soft, medium, and firm support, or the luxurious Duck Feather Down pillow for a medium-firm feel, they have a variety of choices to suit your needs.

If you prefer the contouring support of memory foam, our Memory Foam pillow options, including standard, contour, and gel-infused varieties, cater to different preferences while ensuring a hypoallergenic experience. Additionally, the Memory Foam Gel pillow with temperature control gel provides medium-firm support for a refreshing and allergen-free sleep. With their customizable pillow offerings, you can enjoy a personalized and comfortable night’s sleep without the hassle of bringing your pillow on your travels.

For extras indulge in the Africology Sleep Ritual Pack, a curated collection designed to promote relaxation. This pack includes a therapeutic sleep gel, a thoughtfully fragranced pillow and linen spray to enhance the sleeping atmosphere, and a luxurious velvet eye mask for complete distraction-free tranquillity.

Stay up-to-date with the latest sleep science by incorporating Blue Light Reading Glasses into your bedtime routine. Recent studies suggest that using these glasses 90 minutes before sleep aids in natural sleep stimulation by blocking out the disruptive effects of blue light.

For those seeking a sensory sanctuary, their Better Sleep White Noise Machine is the perfect solution. Sensory deprivation plays a crucial role in stimulating sleep and maintaining a healthy sleep cycle. With five customizable settings, you can drown out any disruptive noises, creating a serene environment conducive to a night of uninterrupted and restorative sleep.

The Hotel

Home Suite Hotels recognises that a good night’s sleep is essential, especially for guests who are staying with them for extended periods. The new sleep menu has been designed to create a relaxing environment in guests’ rooms, where they can unwind and enjoy a peaceful night’s sleep.

‘Our entire philosophy is built on the premise that we’re not just a hotel. We’re more like your home away from home. And what makes home so special? It’s about your comfort. How you sleep is a big part of that,’ said Jonathon Meyer, CEO of Home Suite Hotels.

The boutique is proud to offer guests an unparalleled sleep experience through an innovative sleep menu. The range of products, including luxury pillows and the “Eight Sleep mattress cover,” utilizes cutting-edge technology to enable various features like automatic temperature adjustments.

The team has also turned its attention to sound and lighting, both of which may affect sleep. Blackout blinds are standard in all rooms, while white noise machines are also being introduced throughout all hotels. Guests may also request blue light reading glasses so that emissions from their devices do not interfere with their sleep cycle and can scan a QR code to access a carefully curated sleep playlist.

‘Sleep is, in fact, a big part of your hotel experience, whether you’re a business traveller who needs to be well rested for the next day’s meetings, an explorer who wants to stay out as late as possible so that you can see all the sights, but wants to feel sufficiently energised to continue exploring the next day – or even someone who lives down the road who just wants to swap domestic chaos for a bit of peace,’ says Meyer. ‘We have several regular guests who check in for no reason other than to have a good night’s sleep.’

Added to this, Home Suite Hotels has created sleep ritual packs, comprising scented candles, eye masks, room spray, and soothing essential oils.

‘We know that everyone has their own sleep ritual, the things they do to help them prepare for bed. These kits help you replicate your ritual from home,’ Meyer explains.

Home Suite Hotels is committed to providing guests with a high-quality experience, and the new sleep menu is one of the many ways the hotel chain is delivering on this commitment.

The sleep menu is available at all Home Suite Hotel locations across Johannesburg and Cape Town.

‘We are aware that sleep is both highly personal and subject to change, which is why our team is ready to evolve this offering as needed,’ concludes Meyer.
