After being closed for over a decade due to the construction of the Cape Town Stadium precinct, the iconic Green Point Flea Market is set to return to its original location on Sunday, 11 May 2025.

The market, once a staple of Cape Town’s informal trade scene, will operate every Sunday from 8am to 6pm, except on days when major events take place at the stadium.
Around 200 traders are expected to return, many of them continuing family legacies that began at the market years ago.
‘We are thrilled to finally return to our original home. This market was the heartbeat of informal trade and entrepreneurship in Cape Town. It’s more than just stalls and sales – it’s heritage, identity and survival for many families,’ said Rosheda Muller, Chairperson of the Green Point Flea Market and National President of NITASA (National Informal Traders Alliance of South Africa).
Visitors can expect a variety of local goods, including Cape delicacies like koesisters and samosas, handcrafted ceramics and clothing, and vibrant community energy. Among the vendors will be the market’s oldest trader, an 80-year-old clothing maker who plans to trade from her wheelchair.
The return of the market is a collaborative effort with the City of Cape Town, which sees the project as a key contributor to job creation and economic inclusion.
‘Many of our traders rely on this opportunity to supplement their income and provide for their families,’ added Muller.
‘We call on the Cape Town community – families, weekend park visitors, promenade strollers and tourists – to show their support and celebrate this homecoming with us.’
New vendors are encouraged to join the market by contacting Muller directly.
‘The reopening of the Green Point Flea Market is not just a return, it’s a renaissance. It is a joyful nod to the past, and an open invitation to our communities, traders and visitors to be part of a vibrant future,’ concluded Muller.
