Beaches, Museums open under Level 2

Posted on 17 August 2020

Minister of Cooperative Governance and Corporate Affairs Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma has published the official alert level 2 lockdown regulations for South Africa. These new regulations allow for a host of tourism and public places to open including beaches.

While most were waiting in anticipation for the removal of the alcohol and cigarette bans, Level 2 has meant the opening up of other sectors, especially in tourism.

In the gazetted regulations, beaches and public parks will be open to the public. Although beaches have been open for sports like surfing and swimming, South Africans can now officially have a relaxing beach day which is good timing as we move through winter to spring.

Museums and galleries will also be allowed to open, as long as they follow the rules regarding social distancing and mask-wearing.

All accommodation establishments and tour operators will be allowed to begin business again with the restriction on the number of people. An establishment will only be allowed to have people up to 50% of the available floor space.

The alcohol ban being lifted will also help restaurants and bars, which can now reopen. Patrons and staff must adhere to the curfew still in place.
