A pilot programme will begin at Cairo International Airport in mid-June.
As per Travel News, the system will likely offer travellers various options to obtain emergency visas upon arrival using a QR code.
Payments for these visas will be processed electronically. Travellers can utilise self-service kiosks located within the airport terminals or complete the transaction via a dedicated mobile application.
This initiative is expected to particularly benefit last-minute travellers, individuals with incomplete documentation, or those who were unable to secure a visa before their departure.
The primary goals of the new system are to reduce congestion at key entry points and significantly streamline entry procedures for arriving international passengers.
The pilot at Cairo Airport marks the first phase of this digital overhaul for Egypt’s visa services.
