Guests on game drive witness double lion kill in the Pilanesberg

Recent Sun City visitors’ trip to the Pilanesberg Nature Reserve became much more memorable when they spotted not one, but two lions each killing a zebra – both from the same pride.

The pride consisted of two males, three females and three youngsters. The two kills were less than 100 metres apart and occurred around 11am on 19 February.

Two male lions killed a young zebra, and were not keen to share, forcing the rest of the pride to move on.

Not long after, a lioness decided to take matters into her own hands and killed a much bigger zebra, which she then shared with the pride.

Tarryn Rae, Mankwe GAMETRACKERS field guide, stated that a few hours later the pride was still feeding on the zebra carcass killed by the lioness.
