Italian sunbathers fined for nudity

Posted on 8 July 2020 By Anita Froneman

Six men between the ages of 43 to 68 were served fines for ‘outraging public decency’ after they were spotted sunbathing naked by an Italian lakeside.

Lake Como, Italy.

Italy, as several other European countries, is no stranger to nudism. The cultural preference is, however, only accepted in designated areas.

The men were spotted along Lake Como by police patrolling the area to enforce social distancing rules and were each fined 3,300 Euro (about R63,873) according to BBC.

The European summer is reported to be warmer than usual and authorities are urging residents to use caution when going out, keep their distance and to wear masks. BBC reports that an Italian news agency, Corriere della Sera, made a tongue-in-cheek comment that masks were not the only thing these gentlemen forgot to wear.
