A hiking trail in Calabria, Italy takes explorers through Soverato on the Ionian Sea to Pizzo on the Tyrrhenian Sea.

Traversing through mountains and coastal terrain, the route will take hikers on a scenic 55km-journey through Calabria. Adventurists will be able to soak up over 1,000 years worth of history and culture, as Calabria was part of Magna Graecia.

Hikers are guaranteed to enjoy the sites and sounds of this incredible journey.

The Kalabria Coast to Coast was created by the Kalabria Trekking association and has taken a number of years to complete.

‘The Kalabria Coast to Coast Way, is a naturalistic path of 55 km, to be savored at a slow pace among expanses of centuries-old olive trees, rows of vines, fields of wheat and prickly pears, centuries-old chestnut and beech woods, picturesque granite stones shaped by time and the magnificent oasis nature of the Angitola lake.

‘But it is above all an emotional and sensorial journey inside a Calabria far from the usual tourist routes, to discover those ancient flavors and values that are the roots of this wonderful land, rich in history and millenary culture and where time seems to have stopped,’ says the official website.

The trail is grouped into three main stops, with an average of 20km per interval. The hike has a combination of difficulty levels, to make it as inclusive for people as possible.

Kalabria Trekking’s volunteers are on standby for all hikers for any queries.

International visitors are encouraged to check-in and check-out of the hike so that they are accounted for and easy to locate in case of an emergency.

Hikers are able to pick up a free ‘passport’ to mark their journey. There are special stamps to tick off the towns and villages visited.

Those on the trail will also be able to enjoy discounts at participating restaurants and hotels. While the passport is free, a contribution is welcome.
