No Schengen visa appointments available until September

South Africans who require a visa to enter the Schengen area may have to rethink their holiday plans due to high demand. Most embassies in South Africa are fully booked until mid-September.

Some South Africans are reporting that there are no availabilities at embassies until mid-October. Embassies are currently unable to meet the high demand due to the fixed number of visas they can issue.

Europe could expect a lower number of non-EU visitors towards the end of the year, as travellers are likely to choose other destinations to avoid the bureaucratic hurdles. Europe is already reeling from airport short-staffing and airline strikes hindering its travel and tourism industry.
