The Table Mountain Aerial Cableway Company (TMACC) has confirmed that its annual maintenance shutdown will take place from Monday, 28 July to Sunday, 3 August 2025.
During this period, all operations will be temporarily suspended, and both the Upper and Lower Stations will be closed to the public.
This routine closure is part of TMACC’s ongoing safety and service commitment. Each year, the Cableway undergoes essential inspections and upgrades to ensure its systems continue to meet the highest international safety standards.
“The annual shutdown is a critical part of our operational calendar,” says Selma Hercules, Executive Director of TMACC. “It allows us to carry out key maintenance tasks that ensure the safety of our visitors and staff, and the continued efficiency of our world-class operation.”

Hikers, take note
Although the mountain itself will remain open for hiking and climbing, no cable car services will be available during this time. All facilities at both stations — including VIEWS by De Grendel, TEN67 Eatery, KLOUD Bar, TAP Bar, the Shop at the Top and ablution facilities — will also be closed.
If you’re planning to hike up during the shutdown, be aware that you’ll need to hike down as well. TMACC strongly recommends bringing sufficient water, snacks, and suitable hiking gear.
Birthday ticket holders
South African citizens celebrating their birthdays in July or August can still take advantage of TMACC’s free birthday return ticket offer — but only outside of the shutdown dates. The offer remains valid for the entire birthday month, so plan accordingly.
