Circus Roncalli in Germany has redefined its industry by removing performing animals from its shows and replacing them with holographic animals. This is the first time in history a circus has done this.
For some, a circus may seem like a dated entertainment experience. Roncalli, however, has kept with the times by offering guests a unique, cruelty-free experience.
Founded in 1976, Circus Roncalli phased out the use of animals in the 1990s. The circus still used horses in its shows but by 2018 had stopped this practice entirely, according to Circus Talk.
The circus has adopted a modern twist on its performances by showcasing holographic animals. Sticking to its roots, Roncalli uses holograms of horses to tie the old in with the new. Other holographic animals include elephants, monkeys and fish.
The use of this technology spares many animals from a life of cruelty. Additionally, it has modernised the circus industry – holography is a unique and creative form of entertainment. Hopefully, other circuses will follow suit.
