Recently announced by CapeNature, the facelift is just in time for the peak whale watching season that normally begins in June each year.

The upgrades made to the 55km hiking trail also form part of a short to medium-term strategy which was established to attend to visitor concerns regarding poor maintenance along the trail.

According to CapeNature, the trail was closed for 10 days in order to accommodate the upgrades.

Changes made include the repainting of overnight huts, bathroom upgrades as well as the structural reinforcement of various facilities.

In a statement, Cape Nature also expressed that the upgrades have helped futureproof the Whale Trail’s infrastructure, as well as to elevate the overall visitor experience.

The conservation authority further expressed gratitude for the patience and understanding displayed by visitors as work to restore the trail was conducted.

A more extensive upgrade is scheduled for May next year and the trail is anticipated to close for two months during that time.
