Storm Corrie and Storm Malik hit parts of the United Kingdom back to back over the weekend, causing strong wind gusts uprooting trees and ripping roofs from buildings.

A British Airways passenger plane was also affected when it tried to land at Heathrow Airport on Monday, 31 January but got caught in the wind, nearly losing balance and its tail striking the runway.

‘A full-on Touch and go, with a tail strike! Watch for the paint dust after contact and watch the empennage shaking as it drags. The pilot deserves a medal! BA training could use this in a scenario,’ tweeted Big Jet TV, who filmed the attempted landing.

The plane can be seen ascending again after the failed landing and according to IOL, it returned to a height of 3 675 feet before landing successfully on the second attempt.

Winds of up to 148km per hour were recorded during the storms, and many households were left without electricity. A nine-year-old boy in Staffordshire and a 60-year-old woman in Aberdeen died after falling trees hit them, reported the  Guardian. Flood warnings have been issued for the southeast coast of England.
