According to travelnews.africa, the German airline has confirmed that, from the end of October 2026, it will introduce a new Monday service between Frankfurt and Cape Town. The additional flight effectively gives passengers a daily nonstop connection on the route throughout the busiest travel period, strengthening links between Germany and South Africa.

The expanded schedule forms part of Lufthansa Group’s largest-ever South African winter programme. Across its network, the airline group will operate 38 weekly long-haul flights between South Africa and Europe during the 2026/27 northern winter season, increasing capacity for both leisure and business travellers.

For Cape Town, the additional service arrives as international demand for direct long-haul travel continues to grow. Germany remains one of the city’s key source markets, and the new frequency is expected to make travel planning easier while creating more opportunities for visitors to experience the Western Cape during its summer months.

The schedule expansion also improves onward connectivity through Lufthansa’s Frankfurt hub, offering travellers convenient access to destinations across Europe and beyond through a single connection.

The move reflects growing confidence in South Africa’s tourism market, particularly Cape Town, where efforts to increase international air access have resulted in a steady expansion of long-haul routes in recent years. Additional seat capacity not only benefits visitors but also supports the local tourism economy, hospitality sector and wider travel industry.

The new Monday flight is scheduled to begin at the end of October, in time for the 2026/27 northern winter season.
