One of the jewels of the Cape Winelands, Hazendal Wine Estate which lies nestled against the Bottelary Hills just outside Stellenbosch, will soon celebrate its one-year anniversary since its massive relaunch and reinvention. Adrenaline junkies can start the day in the MTB Family Bike Park where riders of all ages and skills can tackle a variety of tracks: from a pump track to a Y-bike trail for kids. The Babushka Deli is the ideal spot to have a post-ride bite to eat and quench your thirst.
But if it is the chilled holiday mood you are in, then head to the Pivnushka Beer Garden in Hazendal’s historical Kraal. Expect an open-fire cooking menu inspired by the South African love of the traditional braai where dishes also have a bit of Russian flavour and flair. Imagine tucking into mouth-watering peri-peri chicken, BBQ lamb, artisanal pizzas or something different such as pork shashlik. A selection of the finest local craft beers and ciders, Hazendal wines and cocktails are available.
If the kids are getting antsy, the spectacular Wonderdal for kids aged 5 to 13 is just the place for them. For two hours they can have a wondrous (and supervised) adventure as they explore this high-tech edu-play wonderland where they will create energy, collect mysterious crystals, listen to stories, grow imaginary plants, cook virtual meals, climb, balance, jump, discover and have fun.
