The Mpumalanga province boasts astounding natural beauty. It is also home to impressive wildlife and offers a number of diverse and interesting experiences.

When visiting the Place of the Rising Sun, you can enjoy a bit of everything. The province is ideal for different kinds of travellers, including nature lovers and adrenaline junkies.

There are many activities on offer in the province. Here’s a look at the various ways in which one can enjoy the best of many worlds through exploration:

Wildlife

If you’re in search of a lovely wildlife experience, Mpumalanga is a good pick. The province is home to the iconic and world-famous Kruger National Park.

Covering nearly 2 million hectares, the Park is the largest game reserve in South Africa. It is home to the Big Five, as well as plenty of other animal species. You can enjoy an early morning safari, or visit the bush late in the afternoon. On a sunset safari, you admire not just the impressive sight of wildlife, but the gorgeous Mpumalanga sunset too.

A number of interesting activities await, both for the reserved and eager adventure seekers. You can fly through the treetops on a zipline adventure as you take in stunning views of the surrounding landscapes. Explore the rugged terrains as you go quad biking through the forests, or simply enjoy a hot air balloon ride as you marvel at breathtaking panoramic views.

Cultural experiences

Mpumalanga is also rich in culture. Parts of it can be explored through the cultural villages found in the province. The Botshabelo Historical Village in Middelburg explores the artistic heritage of the Ndebele people. It showcases rich traditions through beadwork, mural paintings and more.

Moreover, the Shangana Cultural Village is located in the small town of Hazyview and offers the chance to learn more about the Shangaan tribe.
