Airlink has launched its first-ever route to the island nation, with its inaugural non-stop flight from Cape Town taking off today and opening a direct connection between the two destinations.

The new service runs twice a week and is being operated using Airlink’s new Embraer E195-E2 aircraft. For travellers in Cape Town and surrounding areas, that means another option for reaching Mauritius without having to conne`ct through Johannesburg.

Airlink CEO de Villiers Engelbrecht said the airline’s new flagship aircraft helped make the route possible.

‘Our new flagship aircraft, the E195-E2, makes it possible for Airlink to conveniently connect Cape Town with Mauritius. The route is an important addition to Airlink’s network and strengthens the connection between these two important tourism and business markets.’

The timing and flight schedule have also been designed with both holidaymakers and business travellers in mind.

Rather than relying on disruptive overnight or very early departures, the twice-weekly service is structured to give leisure travellers more usable holiday time while making it easier for business travellers to fit Mauritius into their itineraries.

More than just a beach destination

Mauritius is best known for its tropical coastline, but its appeal goes considerably further.

The island combines luxury resorts, golf courses, turquoise lagoons and a multicultural heritage that has helped make it a major destination for international visitors.

More than 1.4 million people visited Mauritius in 2025, with South Africa ranking among its biggest source markets.

The relationship between the two countries is also significant on the business side.

More than 140 South African companies have operations across sectors including agriculture, manufacturing, consumer goods and ICT in Mauritius. The island’s financial services and business process outsourcing industries further strengthen the commercial relationship.

Its tax and offshore business incentives have also helped position Mauritius as an important destination for investment and trade.

What travellers can expect onboard

Airlink’s E195-E2 aircraft can accommodate 124 passengers, including 12 seats in the airline’s staggered Business Class configuration.

Economy passengers get a two-by-two seating arrangement, meaning there are no middle seats. Every passenger gets either a window or an aisle seat.

The aircraft also offers generous legroom, large eye-level windows, overhead storage and power outlets.

Passengers receive complimentary meals and beverages onboard, while travellers can also make use of Airlink’s sporting equipment allowance.

Customers receive an additional 15kg sporting equipment allowance, on top of the standard luggage allowance. Discounted Economy Class tickets include 20kg of free baggage, while full-fare Economy passengers receive a 30kg allocation.

When the Cape Town-Mauritius flights operate

The new Airlink service operates every Tuesday and Friday.

  • Cape Town to Mauritius: Flight 4Z 350 departs Cape Town at 10:05 and arrives in Mauritius at 17:15.
  • Mauritius to Cape Town: Flight 4Z 351 departs Mauritius at 18:15 and arrives back in Cape Town at 22:35.

The service gives Western Cape travellers a new direct link to Mauritius while also strengthening the air connection between two established tourism and business markets.

Airlink customers can book and manage their journeys through the airline’s website, smartphone app or through a travel agent.
