According to Business Insider, the R2-billion project combines ocean escapes with Big Five game viewing. The resort, developed under Tinley Leisure and backed by African Bank, the IDC, the Women’s Investment Group, Collins Residential and Absa, is due to open on 4 July 2026.

Location and Access

The resort is less than 20 minutes from King Shaka International Airport and close to Ballito. This is the first Club Med resort of its kind in South Africa, offering a dual experience that includes both a beach holiday and a safari stay.

  • Safari Lodge: An 80-room lodge within an 8,623-hectare Big Five reserve, branded as Mpilo Lodge, will allow guests to combine beach and bush in one trip.
  • Family-friendly: Club Med’s all-inclusive model includes kids’ clubs catering from 4 months upwards.

Activities

The property will introduce the world’s first Club Med Surf School, alongside a full range of water sports such as sailing, diving, and snorkelling. Guests can also expect land-based activities and organised excursions, while the safari lodge will provide guided wildlife experiences.
