Cape Town has once again secured international recognition, being named Best City, Editor’s Choice in the International Category at the Travel + Leisure India’s Best Awards 2025, Cape {town} Etc reports.

The award places the city firmly in the spotlight for Indian travellers and highlights its growing appeal in one of the world’s most competitive outbound travel markets.

The accolade recognises Cape Town’s ability to consistently deliver memorable travel experiences, with editors pointing to the city’s mix of natural beauty, culture, and lifestyle offerings as key factors behind the win. It also reinforces Cape Town’s reputation as a destination that visitors return to time and again.

The city’s success extended beyond the main award, with several local properties also earning top honours in the International Hotels categories. The President Hotel was named Best Leisure Hotel, while Ellerman House received the Best Luxury Boutique Hotel title. Nearby Grootbos Private Nature Reserve, close to Gansbaai, was recognised as Best Sustainable Hotel, underscoring the region’s diversity and commitment to responsible tourism.

Cape Town Tourism chief marketing officer Briony Brookes said the recognition reflects the city’s lasting impact on visitors. She noted that the award speaks to Cape Town’s energy, diversity, and the meaningful experiences travellers take home long after their visit, adding that Indian travellers in particular are increasingly drawn to experience-led destinations.

The recognition follows targeted efforts to strengthen tourism ties with India. Earlier this year, the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Economic Growth, James Vos, led a delegation to major Indian cities to promote Cape Town and deepen relationships within the market. Vos said the award comes at an ideal time, aligning with place-marketing campaigns launched by the City that included social media initiatives and billboard advertising in key locations across India.

Vos explained that these campaigns are designed to stimulate travel demand while supporting local supply, emphasising that increased visitor numbers directly benefit Cape Town’s tourism economy. He added that every booking contributes to local businesses and job creation, with further campaign phases planned for 2026.

With iconic attractions such as Table Mountain, the V&A Waterfront, the Cape Winelands and a food culture shaped by Cape Malay influences, Cape Town continues to strike a balance between adventure and familiarity. That combination, city officials say, is resonating strongly with Indian travellers, as the city builds momentum as a global travel favourite.
