Durban beaches close in time for school holidays

With the beginning of the school holidays, seven Durban beaches remain closed due to high levels of E.coli

The City of Durban promised to fix one of the broken pump stations on Sunday, 25 June, which led to the contamination of Umhlanga beaches. However, News24 confirmed that the beaches remain closed on Monday.

The beaches affected include Winkelspruit, Warner, Reunion, Umdloti Main, Bronze, Westbrook, and Umhlanga Main Beach.

The City was unable to commit to a definite date when asked when the beaches would reopen. ‘These beaches will open once the water quality improves. Testing is ongoing,’ spokesperson Lindiwe Khuzwayo said. Durban beaches
