Eiffel Tower says ‘thank you’ to medical workers

Posted on 3 April 2020

Amid the chaos of the coronavirus pandemic, iconic landmarks across the world are being used as platforms to encourage citizens to remain indoors and inspire hope for the future. In Paris, the Eiffel Tower is the latest landmark to do just this.

The Eiffel Tower is famous for its glistening light shows. The tower will often display the colours of the French flag when France triumphs in sport or as a symbol of solidarity. In 2016 when France beat Germany in the Euro tournament semi-finals, the tower lit up in red, white and blue.

Recently, the Eiffel Tower displayed the worlds ‘thank you’ to the healthcare and medical professionals risking their lives daily to fight the coronavirus outbreak. It also reminded Parisians to ‘stay inside’ as a measure to help flatten the curve.

To date, France’s death toll has reached 5,000.
