Emirates, Virgin Atlantic to resume flights end February

Posted on 5 February 2021

Emirates announced they will resume commercial operations to South Africa from February 28, extending their suspension to and from the country.

Flights were supposed to resume on Friday, February 5.

Passengers who have visited or who have connected via South Africa in the last 14 days are still not allowed to enter the United Arab Emirates.

Direct flights between South Africa and the UK are still banned. Virgin Atlantic has also extended the suspension of its South African services until the end of February.

‘We are keeping a close eye on updates from the UK with regard to the imposed travel restrictions. There is, regretfully, currently no end date and, for this reason, we are adapting our schedule accordingly. We have cancelled flights until the end of February, and our intention is to restart as soon as these restrictions are lifted,’ said Virgin Atlantic Head of Middle East, Africa and South Asia, Liezl Gericke to Tourism Update.

British Airways announced that flights to Johannesburg and Cape Town will resume April 16.
