Join a bike ride to aid conservation

Ride 4 Rangers is a cycling initiative that will raise funds for conservation.

Ride 4 Rangers is an initiative that was thought up in recent weeks by a group of African Travel Industry friends who have teamed up with conservation charity Tusk. Hundreds of fellow Africa Travel industry professionals and conservation lovers are being invited to join in attempting to ride the cumulative distance of London to Cape Town – 6,000 miles (nearly 10, 000 km).

The initiative will kickoff in England with a Lands End to John O’Groats 15-day bike ride challenge starting on August 15 2020. ‘Don’t worry…you are not expected you to do the whole trip!  We are encouraging people to get involved with any distance, any place (not just on the route) and for any amount of fundraising,’ ATTA said. Participants can also join virtually. The idea is to get together as an industry both within Africa and globally in a fun way to raise funds and awareness of the situation. You can view more on the website here.

‘ATTA would love your teams and their families/friends to get on their bikes and ride whatever distance they fancy. The amazing thing is that anything they manage to raise…no matter how big or small, will be match funded through Tusk. We will also have individuals and groups joining us across the African continent and globally so this isn’t just a UK focussed initiative,’ ATTA said in a statement.

It is important to emphasise that these aren’t all existing Tusk projects, but a separate list of 60 different conservation areas and entities across Africa that rely on rangers to protect wildlife – and those whose work is being impacted by Covid-19.

An independent panel of conservation experts has been created to identify these recipients (and is conducting the due diligence and governance tests).

All funds raised are being strictly managed by Tusk and will be distributed across 60 different projects and conservation areas across East, Southern, Central and West Africa. The aim is to support over 5000 rangers and their wider families. Incredibly, Tusk have a donor who has offered to match-fund all the monies we raise. So thanks to Tusk, the Ride 4 Rangers efforts will be able to double its impact on the ground.
