The Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park in the Northern Cape has been drenched by unusually heavy rainfall over the past few days, with Nossob Rest Camp recording an impressive 109 millimetres — a rare downpour for this semi-arid corner of the Kalahari.

Across the park, the typically red dunes and dry riverbeds are expected to burst into life, as the desert landscape transforms into a lush, green haven teeming with birdlife and game, as previously reported by SABC News.

According to SANParks spokesperson Reynold Thakhuli, the rain caused only minor damage to park infrastructure. “Repair and maintenance work is already underway, and every effort is being made to ensure the safety and comfort of our guests,” he said.
Thakhuli added that visitors can look forward to witnessing one of the Kalahari’s most remarkable natural spectacles — its rare, rain-fed rebirth.
