A dozy hippo caught a female leopard by surprise while it was hunting for barbel in a muddy waterhole in the Greater Kruger.
The leopard was hunting for barbel at night at a waterhole in MalaMala Game Reserve. During this time, other nocturnal creatures – like hippos – leave the water to graze, giving it ample hunting opportunities.
When the sun is out, it’s another story.
The leopard was hunting for barbel again, this time during the day, not knowing that a massive hippo lurked beneath the mud.
The hippo had no intention of having its slumber disturbed and quickly made its presence known.
