The facility is aimed at serving as a hub for rangers and specially trained sniffer dogs to work together in the fight against wildlife crime.

It is part of the newly established Mdluli Conservation and Anti-Poaching Reserve, located near Pretoriuskop. The establishment of the camp was made possible through generous funding from Italian donors, including the tour operator il Diamante.

The initiative has already produced significant outcomes, including four arrests, the training of more than 40 rangers, as well as the removal of nearly 3,000 snares and 150 invasive plant species.

During the opening ceremony, partners involved in the project were honoured with certificates of appreciation. Stakeholders from SANParks, Mdluli Safari Lodge and various private conservation groups were in attendance.

Ultimately, there was an emphasis on the importance of multi-stakeholder collaboration in enhancing conservation efforts. The vital connection between wildlife protection and the growth of sustainable tourism was further highlighted.
