Alderman Badroodien said the City is investing in several measures aimed at strengthening water resilience, including groundwater, water reuse and desalination.
The City is also working to clear water-thirsty invasive alien plants as part of its longer-term approach to securing water resources.
‘Reducing losses, expanding our water sources and lowering demand are shared responsibilities,‘ said Badroodien.
He added that these measures, together with coordinated decisions across the water supply system, would help protect the city’s water supply while taking into consideration the costs carried by residents.
Water-saving efforts start at home
According to consumption statistics, about 70% of water used in high volumes is consumed at home.
Residents are encouraged to make use of the City’s water-saving tips to help reduce household consumption.
Water-saving information is available through the City of Cape Town’s website.
Residents are also reminded to report burst municipal water pipes as soon as possible through the City’s official channels.
