Mazda and Getaway’s much-talked about series, which takes a street artist into the hinterland to discover unheralded areas and create new work, heads to the Eastern Cape next, with artist and photographer Buntu Fihla, aka @bief37. It gets pretty hairy, so Mazda’s latest BT-50 4×4 doublecab is along for the ride.
So where, what and when?
The Gqeberha-based artist is a son of the Eastern Cape, so he and the Getaway team head deep into the province to reveal a hidden treasure trove of stories, routes and unexpected curiosities. There’s a pilgrimage of sorts as he returns to the umQwashu tree near Peddie to revisit a previous artwork, a coming together of friends in Pakemisa to create art and a very cool – literally – journey down the Amatola Mountain backroads of his childhood. Stories, challenges, the unexpected. Vintage Getaway, totally Mazda.
