Anton Crone’s Western Cape beach break recommendations Posted on 11 February 2021 Getaway Magazine‘s Editor, Anton Crone, spoke with CapeTalk’s Pippa Hudson on Wednesday about his beach break recommendations in the Western Cape. From one day stays to weekends away, Crone outlined his top picks. The criteria considered for his picks include the ability to social distance, long stretches of sand, seclusion and that are somewhat ‘hard to get to’. Crone recommends checking windy.com ahead of any beach jaunt. For day trips around the peninsula: Diaz Beach, Bufells Bay, Platboom Beach, Table Mountain National Park Table Mountain National Park has extraordinary beaches. Buffels Bay can be accessed by car. There’s an entrance fee to get into the park and therefore crowds are deterred. Ocean birds, rock pools and the incredible natural surroundings make for a great day out. You have to hike to get down and up, which also means less people will be there. Perfect for long walks, horse riding and sunset and it can be windy too. There is a wooden walkway making it accessible for wheelchairs prams. There are plenty of food spots to check out post-beach day too. The fauna, flora and lagoon make for the ultimate beach escape. The houses are never too far from the ocean and there is plenty to explore in the town itself. Paternoster is an iconic seaside escape. There is a cave between De Kelders and CapeNature Reserve called The Klipgat Cave that offers incredible views of the ocean.
