Cape Town’s tourism industry almost at pre-pandemic levels

Cape Town’s tourism industry is making an impressive recovery despite being nearly wiped out by the Covid-19 pandemic, Cape Town Tourism reported. Occupancy rates and air traffic have nearly returned to their pre-pandemic levels.

South Africa allowing international travel despite COVID-19

International arrivals at Cape Town International Airport in April 2019 totalled 90 618 and domestic arrivals were 375 001. By comparison, it recorded 271 315 domestic and 67 032 international arrivals in April 2022, according to News24.

Those numbers represent 76% of domestic arrivals and 74% of international arrivals in April 2019.

Similarly, Cape Town Tourism reported that occupancy rates have improved from 39.8% in March 2021 to 66.6% in March 2022.
