According to travelnews.africa, the route will be running between Cape Town International Airport (CPT) and King Phalo Airport (ELS) in East London. The new service comes amid rising demand for reliable and direct travel options between the country’s coastal hubs. By offering flights on this route, CemAir aims to give travellers an efficient alternative to long road journeys or indirect flight paths.
Growing domestic network
CemAir already operates flights to major South African destinations such as Johannesburg, Durban, Bloemfontein, Kimberley, Margate, Hoedspruit, George, Plettenberg Bay, and Port Elizabeth. With the addition of the Cape Town–East London link, the airline continues to expand its reach and improve national connectivity.
Designed for convenience
The airline has structured its schedule to accommodate both business and leisure travellers, offering convenient departure and arrival times. The flight duration between Cape Town and East London is approximately 1 hour 30 minutes to 2 hours, providing a swift and comfortable journey between the two cities.
Economic and Tourism Impact
Industry analysts expect that this new route will have positive ripple effects across the travel sector. Increased route options may lead to more competitive pricing while benefiting airports, tourism operators, and local businesses, particularly in East London.
Observers note that CemAir’s expansion aligns with broader trends in African aviation, where carriers are improving domestic connectivity to meet evolving market needs. Key performance indicators such as load factor, punctuality, and customer satisfaction will be closely monitored to measure the success of the new route.
