Giant tortoise on tracks in UK halts train operations

Posted on 2 August 2022 By David Henning

Trains were brought to a halt in England recently, but it didn’t have anything to do with the strikes this time unless this was a display of solidarity from the large tortoise that escaped from a pet store in Norfolk.

Greater Anglia Rail, a train operating company in the UK, announced that trains between Norwich and Stansted Airport were halted for more than an hour due to a “giant tortoise”.

One passenger tweeted: ‘Train delayed because of a giant tortoise, too heavy to lift, stuck on the train tracks after having escaped from a local wildlife centre is not something I thought I’d ever hear from a train driver!’

Another passenger, Diane Akers, tweeted a photo of the tortoise standing on the track, stating ‘It’s still alive but injured.’

The tortoise was taken to a specialist team for treatment and made a full recovery according to The Guardian. The line was opened 30 minutes later.
