Japan has launched a new bullet train that is incredibly fast, but also safe. The N700S can reach 360km per hour, making it one of the fastest trains in the world, according to CNN.

It is also sturdy enough to operate during an earthquake, and will bring all passengers to safety on a backup battery system, should disaster strike.

The train will run on the Tokaido Shinkansen line, linking Tokyo Station and Osaka, as well as on the Sanyo Shinkansen Line that extends to Hakata Station in Kyushu, reports Kyodo News.

Not only functional, the N700S has an ultra-modern exterior design and a luxurious interior. The active suspension system will ensure an ultra-smooth ride. It also operates with a lithium-ion battery self-propulsion system.

‘I am confident this is the best shinkansen [train] in every respect – safety, stability, and comfort,’ Shin Kaneko, president of Central Japan Railway Co. said at the train’s departure ceremony. ‘I hope many passengers enjoy travel aboard the N700S.’
