Kruger National Park weather forecast

The Kruger National Park received bountiful rains over the past three weeks. Heavy rainfall in the north of the country has contributed to flooded rivers and rising dam levels.

The north of the park received around 300mm of rain over this period and the south approximately 220mm, according to Isaac Phaahla, General Manager of Communications and Marketing of the Kruger National Park spoke with Getaway Magazine.

The Kruger National Park’s rainy season is in the summertime. With showers expected in most parts over the next few days, here is a weather forecast for the park for the next week, as released by SANParks:

The Department of Water and Sanitation said that water levels in a number of dams in the Lowveld are continuously rising.

‘Water levels in the listed dams in the Lowveld in the Mpumalanga Province continue to record impressive levels. This can be seen through the major improvements in dams like the Kwena which was less than 30% three weeks ago but now stands above 70%,’ said the department.

The increases are as follows:

  • Buffelskloof Dam increased from 100.8% to 101.4%
  • Driekoppies Dam from 99.2% to 102.2%
  • Longmere Dam from 69.0% to 79.0%
  • Klipkopjes Dam from 51.9% to 74.3%
  • Witklip Dam from 101.6% to 101.9%
  • Kwena Dam from 57.2% to 74.2%
  • Da Gama Dam from 86.0% to 98.9%
  • Inyaka Dam from 69.7% to 75.0%
  • Ohrigstad Dam from 47.2% to 53.6%.

‘The water situation in the whole of the Mpumalanga Province is also satisfactory with the average water levels in the listed dams increasing from 80.8% to 86.1%. The water management areas (WMA) also continue to improve with the Olifants WMA increasing from 70.9% to 78.6% and the Inkomati-Usuthu WMA increasing from 79.6% to 86.7%,’ the statement concluded.
