Watch: Lonely Planet’s top travel destinations for 2019

Posted on 29 October 2018

Lonely Planet recently announced its top travel destinations for 2019.  We’re proud to see the travel guide specialists punt Zimbabwe and Egypt on its prospective travel itineraries.

The company released a series of travel lists, including a top ten of the best countries, cities, regions and budget-friendly destinations for the year ahead.

Zimbabwe grabbed the third spot in the category for best countries behind Germany (second place) and overall winner, Sri Lanka. Lonely Planet makes mention of Mugabe’s removal and remarks on the new sense of hope and optimism in the air regarding travel there. Not surprisingly, it cites Vic Falls as a major attraction in Zim, numerous historical sites and World Heritage archaeological ruins, as well as the country’s wildlife national parks.

In the category for ‘best value’ destinations, Lonely Planet places the Southern Nile Valley in Egypt on top ahead of the city of Łódź, Poland, and the Great Smoky Mountains National Park in the USA. Calling the region an ‘open-air museum’, the company claims that Egypt’s rich historical heritage as well as its temples and ruins are accessible and affordable, including Nile cruises and tours.

Lonely Planet’s top city for 2019 is Danish capital Copenhagen, and its best region is Piedmont in the northwest of Italy.

Check out the other finalists on the Lonely Planet website.
