Springbok rugby star Cheslin Kolbe is heading to Cavendish Square in Cape Town to launch his memoir, Cheslin Kolbe: Sidestepping the Odds, on Thursday, 22 October 2026.
The event, hosted in collaboration with Exclusive Books, will give rugby fans and readers an opportunity to hear about Kolbe’s journey, meet the celebrated player and have their copies of the book signed. The launch starts at 19:00, with guests invited to arrive from 18:30.
Published by Pan Macmillan South Africa, the memoir was written in collaboration with award winning broadcaster and author David O’Sullivan, who will join Kolbe in conversation during the event.
The book traces Kolbe’s journey from growing up in Kraaifontein, Cape Town, to becoming one of the most recognised players in international rugby. Despite being told that his size would limit his prospects in professional rugby, he went on to establish himself on the world stage through determination, courage and belief in his abilities.
Kolbe has since won two Rugby World Cups with the Springboks, earning a place among the most admired players in the sport. His memoir also explores the personal influences behind his success, including the role of family, faith and community, as well as the challenges he faced along the way.
Faizah Behardien, centre manager at Cavendish Square, said the shopping centre was delighted to welcome Kolbe, describing his journey from Kraaifontein to the highest levels of international rugby as an extraordinary achievement.
The book launch will take place on the lower level of Cavendish Square. Although attendance is free, pre-booking is essential, as places are limited. Copies of the memoir will be available to purchase at the event, with an opportunity to have them signed by Kolbe.
Readers can reserve their places through the Exclusive Books events page.
