Migaloo may be the only pure white adult humpback whale alive today. This beautiful creature was first spotted in 1991 just off of Byron Bay, Queensland in Australia by a group of volunteers conducting a whale count, and the first-ever images of it were captured through a telescope.
Since this first sighting, the whale has been spotted on and off in Australian waters around this time of the year.
Recently, Migaloo was reported to have been spotted in the waters off the Victorian coast. Scientific Mindset reported that marine scientist Dr Vanessa Pirotta said ‘We’re not 100 percent sure but it could be him because he is part of the east population that generally migrate this time of year.’

There are a number of ways Migaloo can be identified. Migaloo is all white, he has a slightly hooked dorsal fin, his tail flukes have a very distinctive shape with spiked edges along the lower trailing side.
